What's Brewing: Visionary Growth in Bend—October 29

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

Ever wonder what the plan is for how Bend will grow and evolve—or if there even is one? There is—and it’s rooted in the idea of visionary growth.

Join us for an engaging session exploring what visionary growth really means through major planning efforts, landmark development projects, and a commitment to preserving the unique character of Bend. This session is a deeper dive from our recent Bend 101 discussion on the City’s Growth Plan, giving you an insider’s look at what’s unfolding—and what’s possible.

Meet the panel who will share insights into how visionary growth has and will impact our city:

SPEAKERS

Kirk Schueler                         Peter McCaffrey                         Corie Harlan
Brooks Resources          William Smith Properties          Central Oregon LandWatch

Kirk Schueler, President & CEO, Brooks Resources—Kirk will kick off the conversation by sharing Brooks Resources’ vision for complete, walkable communities. Having been in Bend for decades and actively involved in the growth discussion for Bend, he will share a then-and-now perspective on how thoughtful urban and mixed-use design, along with neighborhood events—from farmers markets to festivals—encourage social interaction, foster connection, and build a sense of community.

Peter McCaffrey, William Smith Properties—Pete will share the story of the Old Mill District, from its origins to its ongoing evolution, illustrating how development can shape a city’s identity while embracing innovation. He’ll also offer a glimpse at what’s next for this landmark area.

Corie Harlan, Cities & Towns Program Director, Central Oregon LandWatch—Corie will discuss the vision for the Bend Central District (BCD) and the role of the Core Area Advisory Board (CAAB) in creating a vibrant, sustainable urban core, highlighting opportunities for investment and infrastructure that support Bend’s long-term growth.

Whether you’re in business, real estate, planning, or simply passionate about Bend’s future, this conversation will offer insight, inspiration, and a chance to see what’s next for our community.
