Through the Valley marks the debut of The Understory, the chamber ensemble of Central Oregon Mastersingers.

Moving through music of struggle, hope, reflection, and connection, the program traces a journey from uncertainty toward light and toward one another. Works by composers including Amy Beach, Caroline Shaw, Carlos Cordero, Undine Smith Moore, Pavel Chesnokov, Orlande de Lassus, Reena Esmail, and Billy Joel reveal how voices across generations and traditions have given expression to some of our most enduring human experiences. From the radiant optimism of Light of a Clear Blue Morning to moments of prayer, longing, resilience, and quiet farewell, Through the Valley offers an intimate journey through music that asks us to listen closely—to the voices around us and to one another.
