Join the R.A.D. Camps team for an exciting and rewarding summer in Central Oregon! We are looking for passionate and outdoor-loving individuals to lead our youth day camps and inspire the next generation of adventurers. As a R.A.D. Camps Guide, you will:

Core Responsibilities

  • Supervise groups of up to 13 campers alongside another guide, ensuring safety, well-being, and a positive camp experience.

  • Safely transport campers using R.A.D. Camps vans, adhering to traffic laws and maintaining a clean driving record.

  • Lead outdoor activities, including hiking, team-building exercises, and creative free play, with an emphasis on fostering environmental stewardship and sustainability practices.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks in outdoor settings, conducting pre-activity safety assessments and executing emergency protocols as needed.

  • Adapt activities to suit diverse programs, such as R.A.D. Sprouts, Teen Adventures, and core camps, ensuring age-appropriate engagement.

  • Mentor campers in leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills, encouraging independence and resilience.

  • Communicate professionally with parents, campers, and staff, ensuring clarity and alignment with R.A.D. Camps’ values.

  • Collaborate with fellow guides and coordinators to deliver cohesive, enriching camp experiences that blend creativity, exploration, and education.

  • Maintain accurate attendance records, report incidents, and contribute to continuous improvement by providing feedback during meetings.




Qualifications

  1. Experience:

    • Previous experience working with children in outdoor, camp, or educational settings preferred.

    • Familiarity with environmental education and outdoor adventure activities is a plus.

  2. Certifications:

    • CPR/First Aid certification is required (can be obtained during training).

    • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and lifeguard certifications highly preferred.

  3. Driving Requirements:

    • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

    • Comfortable driving 15-passenger vans safely in a variety of conditions.

  4. Skills:

    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

    • Ability to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for campers.

    • Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and a commitment to promoting environmental stewardship.

  5. Physical Requirements:

    • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

    • Ability to hike, lift equipment, and engage in physically active work.

  6. Residency:

    • Must be a resident of Central Oregon or willing to relocate before training.

  7. Additional Requirements:

    • Must be at least 21 years old.

    • Completion of mandatory child abuse prevention training (provided upon hiring).

    • Background check required before employment.




Schedule

  • Mandatory Guide Training Weekend: Saturday, June 14, 2025, and Sunday, June 15, 2025.

  • Camp Operations: Monday through Friday, from June 16 to August 29, 2025.

  • Guides work five days a week, from 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM, with opportunities to work on weekends for special programs or additional responsibilities.

  • This position is for full-time guides who can commit to consistent work throughout the entire summer block.





Compensation

• Base Pay: $18/hr
• In-School Degree: +$0.50/hr
• Completed Degree: +$1/hr
• WFR (or Equivalent): +$1/hr (WEMT = +$2/hr)
• CDL: +$1/hr
• Returning Staff: +$0.50/hr per returning year
• Lead Guide: +$1/hr

• Overtime: Time and a half beyond 40 hours/week
• Training Pay: Mandatory Guide Training Weekend is compensated
