Job Overview

Join the R.A.D. Sprouts team for an exciting and rewarding summer! As a Sprouts Guide or Teacher, you will play a vital role in our program for children aged 4-6, fostering curiosity and creativity in indoor or outdoor settings. Sprouts Guides lead outdoor explorations, including nature walks and environmental education, while Sprouts Teachers inspire young minds through engaging indoor activities, such as creative arts and foundational lessons. Both roles contribute to creating memorable experiences for campers, collaborating with the Sprouts Program Director, and supporting the mission of R.A.D. Camps.




Core Responsibilities

Sprouts Guide (Outdoor Role)

  • Lead outdoor activities, such as nature walks, wildlife observation, and basic environmental education, ensuring engagement and safety.

  • Safely transport children using R.A.D. Camps vans, adhering to traffic laws and maintaining a clean driving record.

  • Conduct risk assessments in outdoor settings, identify potential hazards, and implement safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with the Sprouts Program Director to align outdoor activities with program goals.

  • Foster curiosity and environmental stewardship among campers through hands-on learning and unstructured play.

Sprouts Teacher (Indoor Role)

  • Facilitate creative arts activities, including drawing, painting, and building, fostering creativity and fine motor skills.

  • Manage classroom settings, ensuring a structured yet engaging environment for children aged 4-6.

  • Develop and implement indoor lesson plans that align with the program’s mission and goals.

  • Collaborate with the Sprouts Program Director to create a cohesive curriculum blending indoor and outdoor learning experiences.

  • Maintain classroom materials and supplies, ensuring they are organized and sufficient for daily activities.




Qualifications

  1. Experience: Previous experience working with children in educational, camp, or outdoor settings preferred.

  2. Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification required (can be obtained during onboarding). Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification is highly preferred for Guides.

  3. Driving Requirements:

    • For Guides: A valid driver’s license is required with a clean driving record. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred but not required.

  4. Skills:

    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.

    • Passion for fostering creativity, exploration, and a love for nature.

    • Ability to create an inclusive, engaging environment for children aged 4-6.

  5. Physical Requirements: Comfortable working in various weather conditions. Able to lift and carry equipment and actively participate in physical activities.

  6. Residency: Must be a resident of Central Oregon or willing to relocate before training.

  7. Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.




Schedule

  • Mandatory Guide Training Weekend: Saturday, June 14, 2025, and Sunday, June 15, 2025.

  • Program Operations: Monday through Friday, from June 16 to August 29, 2025.

  • Work hours: 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM daily, with optional aftercare opportunities available if desired.




Compensation

• Base Pay: $18/hr
• In-School Degree: +$0.50/hr
• Completed Degree: +$1/hr
• WFR (or Equivalent): +$1/hr (WEMT = +$2/hr)
• CDL: +$1/hr
• Returning Staff: +$0.50/hr per returning year
• Lead Guide: +$1/hr

• Overtime: Time and a half beyond 40 hours/week
• Training Pay: Mandatory Guide Training Weekend is compensated
