CASA Volunteer Training Application Deadline

CASA of Central Oregon is now accepting applications for two upcoming volunteer training programs beginning in September. Community members are invited to apply for one of two eight-week, 40 hour training courses that prepare volunteers to advocate for children in foster care throughout Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson Counties.
CASAs are community volunteers who are assigned to a child or sibling group in foster care. They get to know the child, get to know everyone in the child’s life, and advocate for the child’s best interests in the courtroom and in the community. They ensure that every child has a caring adult on their side during their time in foster care.
Training will be offered in both Bend and Madras to better serve communities across Central Oregon. Participants receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from CASA staff throughout their volunteer journey. No legal or social work experience is required. The course is designed to fit into the schedules of working adults, parents, retirees, and others looking for a meaningful way to give back.

Bend

Madras
Begins: September 10th
Schedule: Thursdays, 3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Location: Madras Christian Church (115 SE C St)
Once volunteers complete the course and are sworn in by the court, the role is flexible and can be managed around work and family responsibilities. CASA volunteers spend an average of 10 hours each month getting to know the child they serve, connecting with caregivers and providers, and offering informed recommendations to the court to support the child’s safety and well-being.
More than 100 children in Central Oregon are currently waiting for a CASA volunteer. This fall training offers a chance for community members to step forward and ensure no child navigates the foster care system without someone who is focused on their best interests.
